We sent valentines as kids, making sure everyone in our class got a pretty slip of paper that we scribbled our names on. As we grew, maybe we gave valentines to significant others. Maybe it became a commercial holiday we met with dread. Maybe we traded in Valentine’s Day for Galentines Day, swapping love notes and flowers for girlfriends and wine.
Somewhere along the way, we striped the holiday of the platonic, innocent love that we started with. And I couldn’t help but feel like 2021 was the perfect year to bring it back.
Six months ago, in the middle of a global pandemic, and a week before kindergarten was set to begin, R and I moved to new neighborhood. It was our first time living on our own, leaping out of the safety nest we had nuzzled ourselves into for the last three years. And although, as many new things can be, it felt scary, our new house immediately felt like home. And that was in large part due to our incredible neighbors.
So this Valentine’s Day, I wanted to send all of our neighbors little love notes, to thank them for their love and to remind them of just how grateful we are for them.
I picked two favorite photos taken in our new neighborhood, created a few graphics in Canva, and uploaded them all into custom photo strips through my favorite photo printer Social Print Studio. The whole process took under 15 minutes (you can even order through their app!), and I can’t wait to share a little love with our neighbors.
I hope that our neighbors will stick their photo strip on their fridge, use it as a bookmark, pin it to their pinboard, stick it in their journal – keep it somewhere to remind them of just how much they’re loved. After all, that’s exactly what they do for us, every day.
